This is the 34th Napier International Film Festival and we've screened "International Film Festivals" at the Century since 1993. The New Zealand International Film Festival was first seen in Hawke's Bay at the Century in 1999. This year there's 36 feature-length films from a variety of countries - USA, UK, France, Italy, Australia and New Zealand of course, but also Argentina, Czech Republic, Canada, Spain, Turkey, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and Brazil. There's also this year's HOMEGROWN: WORKS ON FILM - a programme of six new New Zealand short films and two beautifully restored prints of classic films - THE RED SHOES (UK 1948) and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (Italy 1968). There is also a special "Live Cinema" screening entitled THE MARVELLOUS CORRICKS, which presents a collection of rare silent films (in carefully restored prints) which were first screened between 1901 and 1914. They will be accompanied by pianist Chris Reddington and narrator Dr Ryan Reynolds. The 35mm prints have been made available by the Australian National Film & Sound Archive with the collaboration of the New Zealand Film Archive. The Century Cinema is the only provincial venue equipped to screen these archival prints. A rare treat.

Pick up a programme booklet with full information on all the Festival films. Happy viewing.
